I will not see much evidence for human-like, self-directed synthetic intelligences coming along any time now, and a reasonable bit of evidence that no one except some freaks in university cognitive science departments even want it. Some folks see editing apps as a way to cover at the rear of magic wands, but I see them as really public declarations of a prevalent human starvation: to be observed in the mild you want to be seen in.
