In September 1996, Megadeth went to London to work on tunes for the future album. The album featured a numerous set of tracks which the Los Angeles Times described as a "rousing balance" amongst more mature materials and experimental songs. Ellefson spelled out that the band modified its solution to songwriting for this album, commencing to compose a lot more melodic tunes.
