The semi-historical Malay Annals point out that Temasek was christened Singapura by Sang Nila Utama, a thirteenth-century Srivijayan Raja from Palembang. The title Singapura supplanted Temasek someday right before the 15th century, after the institution of the Kingdom of Singapura on the island by a fleeing Srivijayan Raja (prince) from Palembang.
