Portland's downtown functions two groups of contiguous metropolis blocks committed for park space: the North and South Park Blocks. The 37-acre (15 ha) Tom McCall Waterfront Park was designed in 1974 alongside the length of the downtown waterfront following Harbor Drive was eradicated it now hosts large events throughout the calendar year.
