Lenore Skenazy failed to grow up as a latchkey child, but is a vocal advocate for the kind of unsupervised, unstructured time that kids savored 30 to forty several years ago. Both Skenazy and Lythcott-Haims see overparenting as the enemy, not latchkey young children. Anecdotally, it looks that the increase in helicopter parenting isn't mainly because men and women experienced miserable ordeals as latchkey little ones.
