On October 29, 2017, the Columbia Missourian published an exposé describing a massive backlog of untested rape kits in Missouri and the very long-dismissed endeavours of rape survivors and regulation enforcement organizations to have the state handle the backlog. In March 2018, 6 previous Missouri lawyers launched a letter describing the investigation as "half-hearted".
