The only institutional factor to this included the Sangha, but lay Buddhists may well only interact with the Sangha by earning offerings to monks. Indeed, when Buddhism definitely only existed as the Sangha, a greater social context was assumed. Sanskrit , sûtra, becomes sutta dharma gets dhamma , ṛṣi (Hindi rishi) will become isi âshrama, , gets to be assama (King) Aśoka becomes Asoka and so forth.
