People rioted. On 13 April 1919, individuals which includes girls with young children collected in an Amritsar park, and British Indian Army officer Reginald Dyer surrounded them and ordered troops below his command to fireplace on them. The massacre and Gandhi's non-violent reaction to it moved a lot of, but also built some Sikhs and Hindus upset that Dyer was receiving away with murder.
