The most frequent tree native to Iceland is the northern birch (Betula pubescens), which formerly fashioned forests around a lot of Iceland, alongside with aspens (Populus tremula), rowans (Sorbus aucuparia), popular junipers (Juniperus communis), and other more compact trees, largely willows.
