Beginning in January 2011, Anons took a selection of actions identified originally as Operation Tunisia in aid of Arab Spring actions. Anons released Operation Darknet in October 2011, focusing on internet websites hosting child pornography. The sites of some banks had been compromised. Critics of the motion warned that having down extremists' web-sites would make them more difficult to monitor.
