Nudism, in German Freikörperkultur (FKK), "free body culture" originated in Europe in the late nineteenth century as part of working course opposition to industrialization. While Christian moralists tended to condemn nudism, other Christians argued for the ethical purity of the nude overall body as opposed to the corruption of the scanty clothing of the era.
