The only possibility left to us is to guess -- and go away our figures penciled in so we can abide by Ariadne's Thread back to our starting issue if our guess turns out to be improper. Mepham referred to as the strategy "Ariadne's Thread" (see under), which entails picking just one of two feasible alternatives for a presented square and adhering to it until you reach a solution or a dead finish.
