Why it’s good: The gritty authenticity of The Rider, which casts true-daily life horse wrangler Brady Jandreau as an hurt rodeo star seeking to obtain his 2nd act, is completely well balanced by a craving poetic excellent that hardly ever feels cloying or manipulative. Like the tale of participant Terry Donahue, a lesbian who, whilst was a star on the crew, kept her sexuality a mystery.
