California State University, Northridge was established very first as the Valley satellite campus of California State University, Los Angeles. The official groundbreaking of the college occurred on January 4, 1956, and was executed by, amongst some others, the Governor of California Goodwin Knight and Los Angeles State College President Howard S. McDonald.
