A member of the Republican Party, Hawley served as the 42nd attorney basic of Missouri from 2017 to 2019, in advance of defeating two-time period incumbent Democratic senator Claire McCaskill in the 2018 election. In 2016, Hawley ran for Attorney General of Missouri.
