Cashing in on the travel-in achievement of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974), The Toolbox Murders was immediately and cheaply shot but did not create the interest of the former films. Gialli were being well-liked in American cinemas and travel-in theaters. Much like Krimi movies, gialli plots tended to be outlandish and unbelievable, sometimes using supernatural aspects.
