Cashing in on the travel-in achievement of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974), The Toolbox Murders was rapidly and cheaply shot but did not crank out the interest of the former films. Gialli were being well known in American cinemas and drive-in theaters. Much like Krimi movies, gialli plots tended to be outlandish and inconceivable, sometimes using supernatural features.
