According to this source, Æthelthryth (died 679), spouse of Ecgfrith, King of Northumbria (died 685), entered the monastery less than the tutelage of an abbess named Æbbe (died 683?). At some point immediately after Æthelthryth remaining Coldingham to uncovered a monastery at Ely, Historia ecclesiastica stories that the monastery of Coldingham burned to the floor.
