On sixteen July 390 BC, a Gallic army below the management of tribal chieftain Brennus, met the Romans on the banks of the Allia River 10 miles north of Rome. The town of Rome grew from settlements all over a ford on the river Tiber, a crossroads of visitors and trade. This induced a dilemma, in that Rome came to have a huge male populace but was bereft of women.
