On October 29, 2017, the Columbia Missourian printed an exposé describing a significant backlog of untested rape kits in Missouri and the very long-disregarded initiatives of rape survivors and legislation enforcement companies to have the state deal with the backlog. In March 2018, six former Missouri lawyers introduced a letter describing the investigation as "50 %-hearted".
