Many of the principles from Phase II (alongside with some scripts) produced their way into Star Trek: The Next Generation and the collection alone is viewed as deuterocanon - not "genuine" canon, simply because it never ever designed it to the display screen, but authorized in Broad Strokes to fill a gap in Trek chronology (detect the fictional size of time between The Motion Picture and The Wrath of Khan).
