Amy can both be a Distaff Counterpart to Sheldon, or Closer to Earth like Bernadette and Leonard. Amy and Sheldon tried to do a social experiment to see which bits of juicy gossip would be passed a lot quicker around their circle of close friends. Sheldon was intended to be this for Leonard in the pilot, but turned a Breakout Character and was delegated to Butt-Monkey alternatively.
