The semi-historical Malay Annals point out that Temasek was christened Singapura by Sang Nila Utama, a thirteenth-century Srivijayan Raja from Palembang. The name Singapura supplanted Temasek sometime in advance of the fifteenth century, soon after the establishment of the Kingdom of Singapura on the island by a fleeing Srivijayan Raja (prince) from Palembang.
