He alone could carry out the liturgy on the Feast of Expiation, on which occasion he put on his pricey vestments only following the sacrifices were being done. The vestments of the high-priest were being completed by a precious turban (tiara), bearing on a golden frontal plate the inscription: "Sacred to Jahweh". The priestly vestments consisted of breeches, tunic, girdle, and mitre.
