A member of the Republican Party, Hawley served as the forty second lawyer typical of Missouri from 2017 to 2019, prior to defeating two-expression incumbent Democratic senator Claire McCaskill in the 2018 election. In 2016, Hawley ran for Attorney General of Missouri. In the Senate, Hawley turned commonly known for his criticism of Big Tech, as well as for his criticism of the Chinese govt and his assistance for an independent Hong Kong.
