In its two-section finale, Evangelion retreats fully into its protagonist Shinji Ikari’s head, repurposing animation from the total collection to illustrate Shinji’s makes an attempt to escape the throes of a deep despair. Lelouch does this unintentionally when his remarkable entrance in episode 20 of R2 coincides with Bismark's in the vicinity of-execution of Suzaku, providing Suzaku sufficient of a distraction to escape.
