The NFB played a important part in both the Cinéma vérité and Direct Cinema movements, working on complex improvements to make its sixteen mm synchronized sound devices much more light-weight-weight and moveable-most notably the "Sprocketape" transportable seem recorder invented for the film board by Ches Beachell in 1955.
