This is pleasant since the Rhythmbox person interface is substantially nicer than that of XMMS. XMMS is nonetheless a little bit greater at actively playing (shorter pauses among tracks, and a lot less affected by brief load peaks), but the variation is little sufficient that it won't make a difference to me.
