Although Blacula could serve as the definitive "black vampire" film in the minds of several cinephiles, the experimental Ganja & Hess offers a far more cerebral dive into the implications of the vampire story as it pertains to the African-American community in the nineteen seventies. Brought to lifetime by playwright/novelist/experimental filmmaker Bill Gun, the movie centers on an aristocratic black anthropologist named Hess Green.
