The story "Vor dem Gesetz" ("Before the Law") was revealed in the 1915 New Year's edition of the impartial Jewish weekly Selbstwehr it was reprinted in 1919 as part of the story collection Ein Landarzt (A Country Doctor) and turned element of the novel Der Process.
