In January 1964, while touring New Zealand with mates in a rented Morris Minor immediately after sailing across the Tasman, Murdoch examine of a takeover bid for the Wellington paper by the British-dependent Canadian newspaper magnate, Lord Thomson of Fleet. Later in 1964, Murdoch introduced The Australian, Australia's initial nationwide each day newspaper, which was centered to start with in Canberra and afterwards in Sydney.
