In late March 2012, the Wikimedia Deutschland announced Wikidata, a universal platform for sharing knowledge concerning all Wikipedia language editions. The 1-billionth Wikimedia project edit was executed on sixteen April. The project sought funding by Indiegogo, and was meant to honor the contributions of Wikipedia's editors. In January 2021, Wikipedia's twentieth anniversary was noted in the media.
