The Amendment's passage worsened Poland-Ukraine relations, currently contentious on the issues of the prewar Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists and the wartime and postwar Ukrainian Insurgent Army, whose leaders Stepan Bandera and Roman Shukhevych have been thought of Ukrainian national heroes in Ukraine, and war criminals in Poland.
