Most captured specimens died in months. One male chook was captured in the Milford space in 1975, christened "Richard Henry", and transferred to Maud Island. Six extra kākāpō have been captured in 1961 a single was released and the other 5 ended up transferred to the aviaries of the Mount Bruce Bird Reserve in the vicinity of Masterton in the North Island.
