Before the 1600 men and women publishing fiction tried to dress up embellished legends as correct history (e.g. the legends of King Arthur and Robin Hood) or noticeable and deliberate allegory (e.g. Utopia), but improvements in literacy, trade, and communications designed a marketplace for entertaining fictional tales established in the present day.
