The genre turned a worldwide strike in the nineteen fifties when the 1956 album titled Calypso was the initially complete-size history to offer much more than a million copies. In the 1950s and 1960s, the roles were being pervasive and not constrained to North America: from 1940 to 1970, butch/femme bar culture flourished in Britain, while there have been less class distinctions.
