Germany and lots of different continental European countries have a system in which professional judges and lay judges deliberate collectively at both the trial and sentencing levels; such programs have been praised as a superior alternative because the blended court dispenses with more often than not-consuming practices of jury management that characterize Anglo-American trial process, but serves the needs of a jury trial better than plea.
