On 16 July 390 BC, a Gallic military below the management of tribal chieftain Brennus, satisfied the Romans on the banks of the Allia River ten miles north of Rome. The city of Rome grew from settlements all around a ford on the river Tiber, a crossroads of traffic and trade. This caused a dilemma, in that Rome came to have a huge male population but was bereft of females.
