Although California's browsing scene is claimed to have gotten its commence in Long Beach when in 1911 two surfers returned from Hawaii and the town hosted the very first National Surfing and Paddleboard Championships in 1938, browsing is now unheard of in Long Beach thanks to a 2.2-mile (3.5 km) long breakwater constructed in 1949 to defend the United States Pacific Fleet.
