YouTube has cited the performance of Content ID as 1 of the causes why the site's procedures had been modified in December 2010 to enable some users to add movies of unrestricted size. In 2011, YouTube explained Content ID as "incredibly precise in obtaining uploads that search similar to reference files that are of sufficient length and high-quality to generate an efficient ID File".
