The previous ship bound for Earth is stopped by Martian soldiers browsing for 3 saboteurs who supposedly destroyed a Martian city. Fred states that Barney is "a pleasant dude who finishes last", and the moment, just the moment, Fred would like to be the initially-place recipient of the premier trophy, even if it implies staying despicable. He finds a world peopled by the fairylike Eloi and the subterranean Morlocks, who prey on the Eloi.
