Within the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Family Code states that the husband is the head of the family; the spouse owes her obedience to her husband; a wife has to dwell along with her husband wherever he chooses to live; and wives should have their husbands' authorization to carry a case in court docket or provoke other authorized proceedings. In Iraq, the law permits husbands to legally "punish" their wives.
