The New Left's critique of the Old Left's authoritarianism was related with a powerful fascination in individual liberty, autonomy (see the wondering of Cornelius Castoriadis) and led to a rediscovery of older socialist traditions, such as remaining communism, council communism, and the Industrial Workers of the World.
