The visa lets previous victims of intercourse trafficking to continue to be in the United States for 3 years and then use for a green card. In 2000 Congress established the Victims of Trafficking and Violence Protection Act with harder punishments for sex traffickers. A chapter in The Slave Next Door (2009) reports that human trafficking and sexual enslavement are not confined to any unique locale or social course.
