At the stop of March 2014, Der Spiegel and The Intercept revealed, centered on a series of categorised information from the archive provided to reporters by NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden, posts associated to espionage efforts by GCHQ and NSA in Germany. The NSA, in an operation named "Shotgiant", was in a position to entry Huawei's e mail archive and the source code for Huawei's communications products.
