On October 29, 2017, the Columbia Missourian posted an exposé describing a large backlog of untested rape kits in Missouri and the extensive-disregarded initiatives of rape survivors and legislation enforcement agencies to have the state tackle the backlog. In March 2018, six former Missouri attorneys produced a letter describing the investigation as "50 percent-hearted".
