It’s ironic, possibly, that though Gen Z is enjoying the primary, unreconstructed Mills & Boon novels, its publisher, HarperCollins, is set on reinventing them. Much as Gen Z fetishises the style of Princess Diana and the music of Kate Bush, so also does it worship the retro graphics, outlandish plots and aged-fashioned titles of historic Mills & Boon novels, with people hailing from the 80s getting certain favour.
