In its choice on Renton v. Playtime Theatres, Inc., the Court upheld Renton's statute that no adult theatre be situated inside 1,000 ft of a university, park, church, or household zone the Court turned down the theatre owners' argument that the statute violated the First Amendment, for the reason that the statute did not search for to ban the existence of adult theaters outright.
