Some have argued that the American judicial program acknowledges the term "sexual harassment" only for the reason that of successful sexual harassment lawsuits by three black ladies: Diane Williams and Paulette Barnes versus the US govt, and Mechelle Vinson towards a financial institution. Vinson's circumstance of Meritor Savings Bank v. Vinson led to the unanimous 1986 Supreme Court selection that sexual harassment violates the Civil Rights Act.
