Representations of the player characters and monsters would transfer about an arena modeled soon after the surrounding terrain, attacking any enemies that are sufficiently close to. Most RPGs also use stationary boss monsters in essential positions, and immediately set off battles with them when the PCs enter these spots or conduct selected actions.
